Parasternal short axis view

  • Label as PSA
  • From PSLA view rotate the transducer clockwise between 70 to 110 degrees (depending how on axis your PSLA is)
  • Aim to have the LV in the middle of the sector looking like a doughnut with the two papillary muscles visible in the LV cavity
  • Assess over all ventricular function normal vs abnormal vs hyperdynamic, free fluid collections, LV RV size as ratio
